Do you own a small business in Los Angeles County? Through the Small Business Initiative, DCBA is here to help you save money, make money, and grow your business during the minimum wage increases.
The Small Business Initiative is a five-year Countywide initiative (through 2021) designed to help small businesses succeed. It includes components such as:
- Low-interest loans and grants through the Community Development Commission;
- Workplace development and layoff aversion assistance through the Department of Community and Senior Services;
- Assistance in applying for County procurement contracts through DCBA, and more.
“Businesses and employees thrive when we have a strong and vibrant economy,” said DCBA Director Brian J. Stiger. “The Board of Supervisors entrusted us with enforcing the minimum wage and we want to do everything we can to assist small businesses during this transition.”

Effective July 1, 2016, the minimum wage is $10.50 an hour for businesses with 26 or more employees. Small businesses, defined as having 25 or fewer employees, will follow a staggered schedule, seeing the first increase in 2017. DCBA will be enforcing the minimum wage in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
