Center for Financial Empowerment Debuts Resource Guide for Residents Seeking Financial Empowerment Services

Updated April 28, 2017

Have you ever wanted to speak to a financial coach, learn about first-time homebuyer programs or get advice on how to improve your credit? The Department of Consumer and Business Affairs’ Center for Financial Empowerment (CFE) has developed a resource guide to help you navigate a variety of free or low-cost financial empowerment services provided by the County of Los Angeles and non-profit agencies throughout the County.

The Center for Financial Empowerment launched in September 2016 to help improve the financial capability of County residents with low-moderate incomes. We’ve created a partner network of trusted non-profit agencies that pledge to provide high-quality services to County residents and align with the CFE’s values. The services include credit counseling, financial coaching, free tax preparation, incentivized savings programs, small business development and more.

“Making good financial choices is important for everyone. There are times when we all need help and could benefit from speaking to a trained professional to help us make the most of our finances.” said Brian J. Stiger, Director of the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs. “I am pleased to bring this resource to the public and help our residents located service providers in their community”

The guide categorizes common financial empowerment services and groups them by participating agency. It also contains helpful tips and other resources.
