The Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA), along with Supervisor Janice Hahn, local law enforcement, and city officials, recently came together with a heartwarming spirit of camaraderie to celebrate National Night Out in the unincorporated community of South Whittier.
National Night Out is an annual community-building event promoting neighborhood safety and police-community partnerships.
The celebration began with a peace march from the South Whittier Community Resource Center (SWCRC) to nearby Amelia Mayberry Park, where residents were treated to a resource fair, food vendors, performances, and live music.
“National Night Out is a great opportunity for residents to meet the deputies who serve their neighborhood and learn about all of the resources available to them in that partnership,” Hahn, who hosted the event, said in a statement.
With the aim of providing resources to help empower and positively impact the South Whittier community, DCBA staff and Director Rafael Carbajal joined residents to educate and provide information about services offered by the department, including worker protection, landlord/tenant assistance, consumer protection, financial empowerment tools, small claims, and mediation services.
The SWCRC collaborates with non-profit organizations, county departments and schools to provide health, education and referral services to help meet the diverse needs of Whittier’s unincorporated communities.
DCBA y la Supervisora Hahn Celebran National Night Out en Whittier del Sur
El Departamento de Servicios para Consumidores y Negocios (DCBA), junto con la Supervisora Janice Hahn, la policía local y los funcionarios de la ciudad, se unieron para celebrar National Night Out en la área no incorporada de Whittier del Sur.
National Night Out es un evento anual de desarrollo comunitario que promueve la seguridad y colaboración entre los policiales y la comunidad.
La celebración comenzó en el Centro de Recursos Comunitarios de South Whittier (SWCRC) con una marcha promoviendo unidad y paz. La marcha terminó en el parque de recreación Amelia Mayberry, donde los residentes disfrutaron de vendedores de comida, juegos y música.
“National Night Out es una gran oportunidad para que los residentes conozcan a los diputados encargados de servir a su comunidad y para que aprendan sobre todos los recursos disponibles para ellos,” dijo Hahn, quien organizó el evento.
Con el objetivo de proporcionar recursos para ayudar, empoderar e impactar positivamente a la comunidad de Whittier del Sur, el personal y el director de DCBA, Rafael Carbajal, se unieron a los residentes brindándoles información sobre los servicios que ofrece el departamento.
Algunos de los servicios que brinda DCBA incluyen protección del trabajador, protección del consumidor, herramientas de empoderamiento financiero, ayuda con demandas de reclamos menores y servicios de mediación.
El SWCRC colabora con organizaciones sin fines de lucro, departamentos del condado y escuelas para brindar servicios de salud, educación y referencias para ayudar a satisfacer las diversas necesidades de las comunidades no incorporadas de Whittier.
