Consumer Alert: Dealing with Airline Delays, Cancellations

Consumer Alert: Dealing with Airline Delays, Cancellations

Consumer Alert: Dealing with Airline Delays, Cancellations 1000 587 Consumer & Business

If you have been affected by ongoing delays and cancellations with Southwest Airlines or other airlines, please keep in mind that there are no state or federal requirements for compensating consumers. Each airline is permitted to make its own policies about what it will do for customers due to a delay or cancellation caused by the airline.

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), which oversees the airline industry, has an online dashboard that shows the different policies for major U.S. airlines: https://www.transportation.gov/airconsumer/airline-customer-service-dashboard.

Also, Southwest Airlines has set up a webpage for travelers to receive the latest information about their flight status or requesting a refund: www.southwest.com/traveldisruption.

Since USDOT oversees and has jurisdiction over the airline industry and accepts consumer complaints, the L.A. County Department of Consumer and Business Affairs does not accept consumer complaints against airlines. You can file a consumer complaint and learn more about rules and guidance and your rights as an airline consumer at USDOT’s Aviation Consumer Protection website: www.transportation.gov/airconsumer.
