The Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) has launched an improved Cannabis Recalls Portal with enhanced search tools and a user-friendly interface, helping consumers, licensees, and regulators to track and access recall information easily.
What You’ll Find:
- Product name
- Licensee involved
- Retail locations where recalled products were sold
- Reason for the recall (e.g., microbial contamination, mislabeling)
- UID or batch numbers
- Health risks (if applicable)
- Instructions for consumers and retailers on how to handle affected products
How the Portal Helps:
- View current recalls — includes both mandatory and voluntary recalls
- Mandatory Recalls are ordered by the DCC when there’s an immediate health risk. Licensees must halt distribution and remove affected products from the market.
- Voluntary Recalls are initiated by licensees who identify a product issue (e.g., defects, mislabeling, safety concerns) and collaborate with the DCC to remove it from circulation.
- Search and filter by recall type for personalized results
- Access detailed product information, reasons, UID/batch data, and affected location
The portal allows consumers to access important instruction, provides guidance for licensees, and allow review of recall archives dating back before 2024.
Guidance for Consumers:
- Check your product’s UID/batch number against recall notices.
- If there’s a match, safely dispose of the product or return it to the retailer.
- Contact a physician.
Guidance for Licensees:
- Affected licensees have already been notified by the DCC.
- For questions or further instructions, contact recalls@cannabis.ca.gov.
