Los Angeles County has reached a major milestone in its ongoing efforts to support households impacted by the Eaton and Palisades Fires. Through the LA County Household Relief Grant Program, more than $17.8 million in grants have been approved to date. In total, over 1,900 households are receiving critical financial assistance to help them rebuild and recover, with more disbursements on the way.

Managed by the Department of Consumer and Business Affairs (DCBA) in partnership with The Center by Lendistry, the grant program was designed to provide swift, direct financial relief to those most severely impacted by the fires. Eligible households have received grants totaling $6,000, $12,000 and $18,000 based on criteria such as insurance status, health conditions, and socioeconomic vulnerability – covering needs not met by insurance or other forms of assistance. The level of care and commitment that goes into reviewing each application reflects a dedication to ensuring that every eligible household receives the support and consideration it deserves. In one case, staff uncovered a nearly 100-year-old property document dating back to 1927 which was instrumental in overturning an applicant’s denial. This attention to accuracy highlights the County’s commitment to fairness, and its determination to support residents as they rebuild their lives. It also serves as a reminder of the deep historical roots of the communities we serve.

The Household Relief grant is fueled by a mix of County funds and generous contributions from organizations and individuals, including the Hawthorne Police Officers Association and Wrightwood’s Girl Scouts Troop 1213, exemplifying the power of public-private partnerships.  Donations are still being accepted at lacounty.gov/relief, allowing residents and organizations to directly contribute to recovery efforts.

While the road to recovery is long, this program represents an important step forward; one that reflects the County’s and DCBA’s determination to help its residents rebuild their lives.
